Review: Slavery & Song, St Andrew’s & St George’s West

Slavery and SongThe concept of this show seemed brilliant. Obviously, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have gone. And although it takes quite a lot to get me into a church, Slavery & Song: New insights into the songs of slavery sounded like the kind of event where I could learn a lot, particularly since my knowledge of US slave music is more or less limited to Paul Robeson singing Ol’ Man River and I’m pretty sure that that doesn’t count.
